Residents of Mangoita village, Chemaner ward, Bomet county are counting losses after elephants stormed the village and destroyed their crops leaving other damages in their farms.
According to reports, the elephants had reportedly been camped in the community for a week, alarming the locals, Mangoita resident Joseph Towet said they won't harvest anything since the wild animals have destroyed every crop.
However, he asserts that because they have no expectations for their farms, the current difficult economy will continue to affect them.
"We want the government to put up an electric fence or dig a trench to block the animals from causing havoc in the villages," Nancy Towet, another resident, added.
The area Member of County Assembly Richard Ruto has asked the KWS officers to ensure the 10 families affected are compensated.
"The wild animals are very important in generating revenue from tourists but the lives of our people should be protected. We urge KWS officers to take up their responsibility," the area residents reported.
